
The Office of Rehabilitation Services has a strong commitment to assist students with disabilities with transition planning to adult life. ORS Counselors work with all school districts, families and students to prepare for job training, career development and employment opportunities after high school. ORS Counselors provide technical assistance, consultation, information and referral services to school systems and work in close partnership with the 5 Regional Educational Collaboratives, Network RI and other agencies to improve transition planning.
Student career assessments and resources include Interest Profiler, Work Values Sorter, Basic Skills Survey, Workplace Skills Checklist, Transferable Skills Checklist, On-line portfolio for storing assessment results and other information, and On-line journal for recording ideas, questions, and thoughts. Educator resources include research, white papers, and tools for tracking student progress and reporting.
The RI Department of Labor and Training provides workforce development, workforce security and workforce protection to the state’s workers, employers and citizens. Through federal and state funding, it offers employment services, educational services and economic opportunity to both individuals and employers. DLT also protects the workforce by enforcing labor laws, prevailing wage rates and workplace health and safety standards. And, the department provides temporary income support to unemployed and temporarily disabled workers.
