2007 Paul V. Sherlock Leadership Award
Rhode Island Department of Education, Office of Special Populations, invites nominations for the 2007 Paul V. Sherlock Leadership Award. The Paul V. Sherlock Award is given in recognition of superior commitment to the enhancement of educational opportunities and outcomes for all children, especially those with disabilities and their families.
Last year's award was presented to Kenneth M. Sheehan, Principal, Gorton Junior High School in Warwick, RI at our 2006 Ride Spring Leadership Conference on May 11, 2006 at the RI Convention Center by Peter McWalters, Commissioner, RI Department of Education

Response to Intervention Leadership Team Training
Seminar series to assist teams who are leading their schools and districts implementation of Response to Intervention, a school-wide strategic decision-making model. This series has been designed for educators and administrators who are working together to implement Response to Intervention. Each of the monthly sessions will include information on specific topics (see tentative sequence below) as well opportunity for local teams to discuss the implications of the information on their current professional practice, engage in self- evaluation and develop action plans relative to the topic and share their teams work with the larger group. Seminars will be lead by Dr. Laura Boynton Hauerwas in collaboration with other RI professionals involved in RTI.

Now Available: Final IDEA 2004 Federal Regulations
Department of Education Secretary Margaret Spellings has announced the final regulations to implement the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA), Part B. An official copy of the final Part B regulations of the IDEA was published in the Federal Register on August 14, 2006. You can download a copy from the US Department of Educations' website.
